About KPS

EVERYONE NEEDS
SOMEONE TO TALK TO

That's why KPS believes the relationship between therapist and patient is paramount. But we also know that coming in for therapy isn’t always easy. We make the process as stress-free as possible. Creating a judgment-free atmosphere of trust and comfort, where people can feel truly heard, is our first priority.

KPS uses a blend of analysis of past experiences and understanding of present day stressors to help develop greater awareness. This is achieved by developing new coping strategies and relaxation techniques. Cognitive-behavioral strategies, such as breathing exercises, progressive muscle relaxation and occasional homework assignments, are used to help you build a toolbox of resources for use in real life situations. Talk it out. You’ll feel better.

Meet the team

Craig Kafko

Craig Kafko

I’m a husband, father, avid sports fan and pizza expert. I received my BA in Psychology from Hunter College in 2004, my doctorate from Hofstra University in 2008 and became a NY State Licensed Psychologist in 2010.

I had a fellowship at South Nassau Communities Hospital in Baldwin, NY where I provided individual and group therapy to patients in the Intensive Outpatient Program and patients in the Partial Hospitalization Program with a wide variety of mental health concerns, including: mood disorders, anxiety disorders, personality disorders, adjustment disorders, eating disorder, issues related to gender identity, schizoaffective disorders, etc.

I now bring these skills and experiences to my private practice, where I strive to create an environment of trust and comfort for all my patients. I believe in a balance of fun and work, and most of all, I believe in living in the present. Living in the past leads to thoughts of depression and living in the future creates anxiety. Life can be better. Come in and talk it out.

I am a New Yorker, born and raised, a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan and a proud dad. I have a BA from Wesleyan University and a MS in Mental Health Counseling from Manhattan College. I come to therapy from the field of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and my training has taught me to view my clients through a multicultural lens that acknowledges and values all parts of their identity.  I view therapy as a partnership designed to disentangle life’s complexities on the pathway to wholeness.

My clinical experience has focused on a wide range of mental health concerns such as: personal/generational trauma, stress, anxiety, depression, interpersonal issues and grief. No matter the presented challenge, I help clients purposefully create adaptive coping strategies to bring themselves into better alignment. In sessions I utilize a person-centered approach along with cognitive behavioral and psychodynamic techniques.  Clients experience me as a caring, personable, partner focused on helping to fulfill their identified goals.  Let’s journey together to pinpoint the challenges you face and uncover the means to make your life all that it should be.
